There is nothing more frightening than driving on the highway at 65 miles per hour and unable to slow down your vehicle or brake. Once your brake system gives out or even a portion of your brake system fails, you have no other choice than to figure out how to survive not having a collision.

How to prevent Brake Failure?

If you notice any signs of brake problems, make sure you get it immediately checked out by a qualified auto mechanic.

Mostly everyone is aware of the dangers of driving while intoxicated. Most drivers will not get behind the wheel of a vehicle with a bottle of wine in hand or case of beer. However, there is one thing that can happen to any driver and that is driver fatigue.

Driver fatigue can happen after experiencing a tough long day at work, as a result of pulling an all-nighter after studying for an exam or traveling long-distance between states. Regardless of what the situation is, everyone experiences driver fatigue at one point.

Even if you pride yourself in getting a full eight hours of sleep every single night you can get tired while driving. Medication can cause driver fatigue, certain illnesses can cause you to become tired or just plain old boredom can cause your eyelids to get heavy.

Driver fatigue can cause a driver to swerve in and out of lanes. It can even cause one to greatly reduce speed, for example, driving 20 miles an hour on a highway when the speed limit is 65. This can cause accident injuries and even death.

Here are a few important tips to help prevent driver fatigue:

Listen to peppy music to help keep you awake.

Drink cold bottled water or coffee.

Open the window to get fresh air.

When all else fails, the best thing to do is to stop driving and safely get off at the next rest stop and take a nap until you feel revived.

If you need to drive to your destination and you feel extremely tired, don’t get behind the wheel at all. Many drivers fail to realize that getting behind the wheel of a vehicle while tired is equivalent to being intoxicated. You’re better off having someone else who is alert to drive or calling a taxi.

A drunk truck driver can risk the lives of other motorist on the road and cause deadly collisions. Drunk drivers can also face criminal charges for causing an accident.

Once a truck driver get‘s behind the wheel of a truck they are responsible for operating their truck safely according to the traffic laws. When a drunk truck driver defies their responsibility, the driver is responsible for your injuries.

If you or a family member have been involved in a truck accident, you may be able to file for a personal injury lawsuit. In order to receive full compensation for lost of income, medical bills and other expenses accumulated due to the accident, you must hire an experienced personal injury lawyer to represent you in court.

How can you avoid being involved in a truck accident with a drunk truck driver?

If you notice a truck swerving or driving recklessly, that is a strong indication that the driver may be driving under the influence. The best thing to do is avoid driving close to the truck. If you can, try reporting the truck driver to the police.

Provide the police with the location and the license plate number of the truck. Some trucks have an 800 number posted on the back of the truck that reads: “How am I driving…Please call 800…”, you will want to contact this number as well to report the driver‘s reckless behavior. The less irresponsible drivers we have on the road the better.

For example, a driver should not text or use other hand-held devices while driving. Keep eating and drinking to a minimum and utilize defensive driving techniques every time you get behind the wheel.

Unfortunately, there are times when we can’t control hazardous road conditions.

Hazardous road are the state’s responsibility and not the responsibility of the driver. Examples of hazardous roads may include the following:

-Pot holes

-Damaged medians

-Damaged guard rails

-Missing warning signs

-Improper drainage

-Missing man holes

-Improperly placed traffic signs

-Badly marked construction zones

Inclement weather can enhance the danger of hazardous road conditions and increase your chances of a serious accident. It can cause a blowout and even cause a driver to spin out of control. Even though it is the states responsibility for hazardous roads, it is still our responsibility as drivers to take precaution.

It is imperative that you are fully aware of what’s going on around you while driving. Being alert and diligent will help you to avoid an accident. This is why it is so important to obey the speeding limits and traffic laws. Speeding down a potential defective road will only increase the effect of a hazardous condition.

To help prevent accidents make sure you report all hazardous roads to local authorities.

Regardless of what state you’re traveling in, you will more than likely encounter an aggressive driver. Aggressive drivers are constantly in a hurry and could care less about their safety and the safety of other drivers. Their ultimate goal is to get to their destination as quickly as possible. When it comes to unsafe lane changes, aggressive drivers can be described as experts.

Unsafe lane changes are often accompanied with speeding, failing to obey traffic lights, tailgating and failing to properly signal when changing lanes.

Unfortunately, most accidents caused by unsafe lane changes can’t always be avoided. However, there are a few defensive driving techniques you can use to help prevent getting yourself into a serious accident.

If you come in contact with an aggressive driver while on the road, don’t take them on, get out of their way quickly and safely as possible. Never try to confront them by speeding up and don’t try to stay in a lane to just to prove that you can’t be pushed around.

Don’t give aggressive drivers the satisfaction by looking over at them, keep your eyes glued to the road. The best thing that you can do to avoid accident injuries is to make sure you always pay close attention to what’s going on around you while driving in close proximity of an aggressive driver. Most of all, make sure you always wear your seatbelt.

Imagine driving down the highway minding your own business then suddenly a truck carrying an unsecured load comes out of no where. You try avoiding the truck at all cost because you realize that getting involved in an accident won’t just ruin your nice drive, it can cause serious injuries and even death. To be on the safe side, you decide to get off on the next exit — besides, you’re in no rush, in fact, you have all day.

However, before you get a chance to pull into the next lane, suddenly debris and rocks begin to fall out of the truck smashing into your windshield. Other cars begin to spin out of control. Before you know it, your easy-going morning drive is ruined by an accident that could have been avoided if the truck driver secured his truck properly.

Thank goodness that you didn’t suffer any injuries, not everyone is as fortunate as you are. The next important question …are you responsible for the damages of your vehicle? Absolutely not. It was the responsibility of the truck driver to secure his/her load before driving on the road.

Should you let your insurance company decide how much you should be compensated for?

Although your insurance company may recognize that the truck driver is at fault, you may not be due the “full compensation” you deserve. If you want to make sure the driver is held liable for any injuries, loss of income or damages associated with the accident you need a good accident attorney.
